Your Invisalign Journey

If the last time you checked out orthodontic treatment was back in the days of fixed metal braces, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. You’ll find no fixed brackets or steel cables here: Instead, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to bring teeth progressively closer to the perfect position.

Lasting Impressions

Rhona starts things off by taking a dental impression to build an accurate picture of your teeth’s current position. Things have moved on here, too – with the icky dental impressions of old now replaced by smarter, more comfortable iTero 3D scanning tech.

Lab Production

Now Rhona hands things over to Invisalign’s laboratory technicians, who’ll set about creating a series of custom-designed aligners. You’ll usually need between 12-48 sets of these for a complete course of straightening.

Fits Like a Glove

In a few weeks from your first appointment, Rhona will receive the aligners from Invisalign’s lab. Now’s your chance to see how they fit, brush up on some hints and tips for daily wear, and finally take your new aligner home to meet the family.

Almost There

Invisalign aligners are designed to be worn without discomfort throughout the day and while you sleep. You can remove them to eat and drink, brush and floss. You’ll receive a brand new aligner every few weeks and continue visiting Rhona regularly to check on progress.

Smiles for Life

That’s all there is to it. It takes anything from 9-15 months to complete treatment. Rhona believes smiles should last a lifetime. After you’re done admiring your new smile, you can regularly touch base with Rhona to make sure your perfect smile stays that way. Rhona will also provide handy night-time retainers to keep you looking fab for years to come.

Invisalign FAQs

What’s the difference between Invisalign and ordinary braces?
arrow

Ordinary braces consist of brackets and wires affixed to the teeth, which are tightened to bring the smile to its perfect position. You must wait until the end of treatment to remove them.

Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear, removable trays. Each new tray in the series brings the teeth a little closer to the perfect position. Although you should wear your aligner most of the time, you can take them out when you need to. This makes it much easier to keep your aligners clean.

You should always remove your aligner when eating – and this means you needn’t avoid any of the many foods which could cause traditional braces to break.

For how long should I wear my aligner each day?
arrow

You should wear your aligners for 22 hours every day. They’re amazing but they don’t perform miracles by just sitting in the box!

Are they suitable for treating all orthodontic issues?
arrow

Invisalign is extremely versatile. But in some cases, conventional braces could be the better option – especially when extractions are needed or treatment requires significant movement of the back teeth.

How much does Invisalign cost?
arrow

Invisalign starts at £4500. In most cases, Invisalign treatment is comparable to the cost of traditional braces. Every treatment is judged on an individual basis and is based on your specific needs. Factors taken into consideration include treatment goals, the difficulty of your case, how long you are in treatment and additional factors determined by your dentist or orthodontist.

Is Invisalign quicker than conventional braces?
arrow

No, Invisalign actually tends to be slower than traditional braces. Your dentist will want to see you usually about once every four to six weeks. The goal of these visits is to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Fixed braces tend to require more chairside time.

How long (on average) does Invisalign take?
arrow

Invisalign treatment can take anything from two months to two years to complete.  before treatment is completed.

Is it painful?
arrow

Invisalign is not as painful as traditional braces as there is no rubbing of wires and brackets against the gums. Initially, you will feel pressure and the aligners can cause some discomfort and slight ulceration. However, you soon get used to this and the pressure you feel when the teeth are moving is somewhat addictive. Patients tend to enjoy the feeling of the teeth moving!

Is Invisalign completely invisible?
arrow

Although the name may suggest they are invisible, they are not completely invisible – nothing in this world is, not even air on a cold day!

Are there any other advantages to Invisalign?
arrow

Invisalign is very subtle, so nobody may even notice you’re wearing them. They also help maintain excellent oral hygiene because you remove the aligners to brush and floss. Also, Invisalign allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you start, so you can see how your straightened teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

What are the benefits of straighter teeth, besides aesthetic ones?
arrow

Straighter teeth are easier to keep clean and the bite can also be more comfortable when teeth are straightened.

Before & Afters

Lisa’s Headline Smile

Journalist and influencer Lisa Potter Dixon wanted to change up her smile. Invisalign with whitening and bonding created the super transformation you see here. I also treated Lisa to a laser gum lift to improve gum contour and symmetry.

Just. Wow

Sometimes, it takes the subtlest of improvements to give a smile the wow factor. In this case, I used Invisalign to improve the buccal corridors of the teeth, which affects how the smile looks. Whitening and composite edge bonding were the icing on the cake.

Gaps? What Gaps?

Here, I used Invisalign to close prominent gaps before finishing off with whitening and edge bonding.

Kill The Crowding

A fab example of Invisalign at work against crowding. You can also see how Invisalign helped to retract those prominent front teeth. Here, I also replaced a worn composite veneer before completing treatment with a course of whitening.
